Made it to the semi-finals. Based on the theme ‘Agriculture and Environment’, the students had to generate an idea or create a prototype. They went through weekend workshops which were conducted by lecturers from various fields. The team was mentored by Dr Zaid bin Omar, a specialist in Electrical Engineering from UTM Skudai. He supported and guided the team thoroughly from the industrial perspective.
Twenty teams all over Malaysia competed in the semi-finals and gladly KYS ranked amongst the top 5 for the grand final. Individual and team quizzes were conducted apart from the video presentation. This year, a new slot was added known as “Lightning Session” where the students were given 1 minute and 30 seconds to answer random scientific questions. This session tests students’ basic knowledge and teamwork. The competition ended with Q&A sessions on the prototype video where the team confidently presented their project to the judges. KYS won the grand prize as they accumulated the highest marks. Each of them received RM6000, a laptop, and the ‘Prime Minister Trophy’.
