School Life

"What a man can be, he must be. This need we may call self-actualization…It refers to the desire for self-fulfillment, namely, to the tendency for him to become actualized in what he is potentially. This tendency might be phrased as the desire to become more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming." - Maslow
School life is a crucial educational period for all students. It is about foundational building to individual growth and to be educationally correct on this matter necessitates relevant learning contents, both formal and informal where students can successfully participate, discover, build and actualize in what they are potentially. The main areas of school life of students at KYS are their daily living activities, growth, maturity and understanding of the purpose of education that can help them to blossom into achievers with good attributes.
Daily life at KYS includes time dedicated to learning, cocurricular activities and social time with friends. In a typical day, students will rise early at around 6 am and then get ready for lessons at 7.45 am before the teaching day ends at 2.15 pm. They will then go for lunch and later in the evening, all students will have the opportunity to participate in sports activities.
Following sports, students will shower and get changed for dinner. At dinnertime, all students will gather at the dining hall to eat together. This is also a good time to catch up with friends and happenings of the day. After dinner, students will have what is known as ‘prep’. Prep is dedicated time each evening for students to do independent learning and it lasts 2 hours before lights out at around 11 pm.
There is Saturday morning school for learning intervention and activities. Students are kept engaged meaningfully on weekends with fun-filled activities organized by their respective boarding houses. However, there are also weekends in each month where students can travel back home for an overnight stay. These overnight weekends will give students an excellent opportunity to bond with parents and their siblings.
KYS has a housemaster system which is central to the life of the boarders. There are housemasters/housemistresses supported by assistant housemasters/housemistresses, wardens and nurses within the system to provide care and support for the growth, development and social-emotional wellbeing of the boarders.
Every effort is made to provide an exciting and varied school life experience for the students that can enable them to champion their learning and become effective individuals.
