COLLEGE COMMITTEE CAMP 2009

COLLEGE COMMITTEE CAMP 2009

.
On the 1st – 3rd of January 2009, 35 College Committee (CC) members accompanied by 4 advisors namely Madam Rozilayati Zainuddin, Mr.Omar bin Mohd Dam, Mr.Hairuddin Mohd Noh and Mr.Azmi as the camp coordinator spent three days and two nights at the Akademi Pembangunan Belia , Port Dickson for the Annual College Committee Leadership Camp. The objectives of this camp were to improve the leadership skills, while giving attention to interpersonal skills and communication skills of the College Committee members.

.
On the 1st of January 2009, all CCs gathered at the foyer to depart for the camp. Mohd. Afiq Walid recited the prayers after which Mr. Azmi as the camp coordinator briefed the CCs on the do’s and don’t’s during the leadership course. Madam Rozilayati then continued by giving some advice on how to conduct themselves during the 3 days. At 10.30am sharp, the college committee boarded the bus and van accompanied by Mr Azlee, the photographer.

.
The CCs reached Port Dickson at approximately 12.10 p.m where they were greeted warmly by the staff of Akademi Pembangunan Belia Port Dickson. Mr Yus, the coordinator then briefed them on how the Olympic athletes had also come to this very ground to build their strength mentally and physically. After taking their files, nametags, and bed supplies they headed to the dorms to unpack their luggage.

.
At 2.30 p.m, the 35 CCs gathered at the discussion room for a session with the CC advisors. They took this opportunity to reflect on their past mistakes and ways to improve them. The headboy,  Mohd Syamel Asyran also talked on ways to improve their two way communication with teachers and other students. Sara Ruzanna then asserted that the CCs should change themselves first before they can pledge to change others. All in all, the session was a great success.

.
After tea break and Asar prayers, the CCs got ready in for their sports and recreation session with Mr.Yus. The Ccs were told to collect 7 different types of leaves on their jungle trekking journey. These leaves had to be of the same size as the KYS logo. He then taught the CCs three ways of overcoming enemies which they were about to encounter in the jungle later.

.
Through a drain and high above, they started the jungle trekking journey. They rolled on the ground, hid behind trees, balanced on tips of logs, debated whether Hang Tuah is a lady or a man, but most importantly, they have learnt the true meaning of co-operation and teamwork.

.
After washing up and dinner, they headed back to the discussion room where once again,Mr. Yus the Akademi Pembangunan Belia coordinator gave a motivational talk. There, they played games, learned how to listen to instructions, and open their minds to new ideas. The college committee members also learnt what colours meant in lives where every colour held a significant meaning.

.
The next day, the CCS had a motivational and leadership session with Mr.Haswandy, a famous motivator. Then, over the evening, they enjoyed a paintball session. This was aimed at enhancing focus and determination through trying to hit the target.

.
The highlight of the camp though was when everyone was given a role to play where they would act it out during the performance night. There were the Beatles, Hitler, Pondans, Pocongs,  Pontianaks, Nenek kebayans, babies, samurai warriors and also dangdut dancers. Everyone was given marks after their performance with the top spot being awarded to Izhar Mustaqin for playing an unbelievable Pondan role. Now, there’s really a catch to this. What Mr.Haswandy really wanted to teach the students was how these roles actually played important roles in determining their characters as leaders.

.
As they say, time passed by really fast. After a quick game session and clean up, the CCs discussed their plans for the upcoming school year. Every committee planned out their new year’s activities and plans. They then presented it in the CC Forum. A lot of new ideas were presented and applied to the new school year of 2009. After a brief closing ceremony, the college committee went back to Kolej Yayasan Saad after lunch.
The leadership camp was certainly something to remember as an important part of our lives. The CCs have definitely learnt a lot from this course and it is hoped that they will develop as leaders and examplars that can lead KYS to greater heights.
